Another Month...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...and 2009 will be over. Huh? The last 5 weeks of this year will be very busy for us. One of the companies I work for has an ongoing project and I don't know how much more will be released. Since it came out around the Thanksgiving holiday, there's only a few of us who worked. By the looks of it, that will be the norm since it won't be long and the holiday rush will commence. The husband is also very busy at work. He now has to work on Saturdays as well to be able to finish some jobs. They even had to hire some extra people to help them out to finish the job which is great. It's all good since they've been idle for a few months but the timing is just not the best. I'm pretty sure they will be working through the holidays as well. Not fun but they have to do what they have to do. Who am I to complain, right? We're still very lucky compared to a lot of people out there. Just having a job during this difficult economic time is somethi
Wet !!!
That NOT our driveway [I wish it is![ but that's how it looks like outside. It's been raining non-stop today. It was raining yesterday as well but not continuously like today. The local newscasters say rain is in the forecast tomorrow so there's a good chance it's going to be a wet Thanksgiving Day as well. Thankfully we're staying at home tomorrow just like the past few years. The little one has been planning non-stop on what we should make for TD so I have to draw a line on some things. She wants us to bake both pumpkin and apple pie but I made her choose only one. She also wants some other sweet stuff but we agreed in only baking brownies. We still have to decide on the side dishes but guess what???? Our "bird" is already done... finished...baked...cooked....ready to be served! Yep, hubby wants it roasted a day in advance. He 'thinks' it tastes a lot better if it's a day 'old' so I gave in to his wishes. This is the first time we'
We're POOR!
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes we are....according to the little one. What makes her think that? We don't have MILK! The back window of our car was smashed late last week. A neighbor at hubby's work was walking around with a piece of granite and accidentally hit the window. It was supposed to be fixed on Friday but the guy that's supposed to install the new window brought the wrong glass. Big surprise! Anyway, since hubby didn't want to leave an 'open' car in the parking lot of the grocery store, he chose not to do the usual Friday grocery shopping. Thus, the lack of milk in our fridge. This morning when I asked the little one what she wanted for breakfast she [of course] wanted something where milk had to be used. After a couple of - 'we can't do that because we don't have milk' - that's when she said and I quote: "I feel so poor because Dad didn't go grocery shopping." Boo hooo! Moral of the lesson : If you think you'r

I'm Alive...

It's a song collaboration of Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews . I saw their live performance in the CMA awards and the song kinda' stuck with me so I decided to make a simple slide using it as the background. The lyrics are below the Slides. Inspiring. So damn easy to say that life's so hard Everybody's got their share of battle scars As for me I'd like to thank my lucky stars that I'm alive and well It'd be easy to add up all the pain And all the dreams you've sat and watch go up in flames Dwell on the wreckage as it smolders in the rain But not me... I'm alive And today you know that's good enough for me Breathing in and out's a blessing can't you see Today's the first day of the rest of my life And I'm alive and well I'm alive and well Stars are dancin' on the water here tonight It's good for the soul when there's not a soul in sight This motor's caught its wind and brought me back to life Now I'm al

And Again....

Yeah! It's been a busy week for me....and the husband as well. Work has been coming in since last weekend. I know it's not going to last forever so I'm trying to work as much as I can. The husband has been really busy at work as well. Funny that when he's busy at work, I'm also busy with mine...and our work are not in any way 'related'. Is it a [good] sign that the economy is getting better? Who knows, right? My laptop is back from the shop. They replaced quite a few parts...including the processor. Before we sent it in, the husband already knew they're going to replace it because it smelled like it got fried...I guess it did. They reformatted my hard drive though so I didn't lose anything. Thank goodness for that. My ever dependable 'antique' laptop is now resting comfortably. I'm going to put it back in its 'resting' place hoping and praying that I won't need to take it out ever again....well, at least not in the next year

Set of 3....???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Remember the belief that things happen in '3s', be it good or bad? I don't normally keep track but I thought it's interesting how some things [not so good things] unfolded in the most recent past in a group of 3. First, my barely one year old laptop DIED. It just conked out on my birthday. No warning, no nothing whatsoever. Since it's not even a year old, the HP headquarters paid for everything including shipping. But that also means of at least a month of using my antique laptop which is OLD and SLOW...just like the owner. Har har har... Second. I got sick/ill. Nothing serious but I was miserable for a few hours...almost a day actually. It spoiled what could have been a very good weekend. Well, sort of. Third. My antique laptop died last night. Well, it 'dies' a lot already but I can revive it after a while. I can't blame it because it's overused. It's like a '24/7' servant for the last 6 years. Going back to the topic,
The Good and the Bad!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This weekend was a combo of good and not so good things for me. Let's start with the good. The weather was really nice. The little one was happily running around the yard while picking up dry leaves. I was on the back porch working while watching her. Now the bad. I wasn't feeling well. I started feeling yucky early in the day so I called my doctor and told him what's happening so he prescribed me some antibiotics. I took one as soon as we got them. I started to feel better but not without some side effects kicking in. What kind of side effects? Let me just say that I may not need those weight loss supplements to get rid of the weight I want off. Get it? I was up until after midnight with my 'porcelain' friend to keep me company. Hubby was worried of course but I pulled through...ha! I still have a few of the antibiotics to take but I am now scared to take them because I don't want to go through what I went through last night. BUT

Laugh Out Loud!

Business Management Course...101 L esson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.' After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?' 'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies. 'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?' Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lesson 2:

My Bad!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I may just need the best weight loss product out there after all! I think it was last week when I mentioned here that I lost some of the weight I put on the last few months. Well, I weighed myself this week again and it seems the pounds are creeping back in! Why oh why?? I wonder if it has something to do with all the sweets calling my name? Or maybe that chocolate cake the father and daughter got me for my birthday? Or maybe it's because of the all the rice I've been eating the last few days because hubby bought this radish and I couldn't help myself from cutting it up then eat it with tomatoes and some fried fish. Yep, in other words I've been 'pigging' out the last couple of weeks. Now I have to suffer from it. Or maybe I don't need to take any diet supplements. Maybe, just maybe, I'll just try to eat less [junks] in the coming days. Good plan?
Too Early??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For the last couple of weeks, the husband has been coming home with granite bars. Actually, it's usually just one granite bar at a time. Why? It 'seems' he's thinking of some small renovations already for the house. Granite was our original choice for the counter tops with our original builder. But because of the unfortunate events that unfolded during the process of having this house built we had to make a lot of changes and putting on granite was one of the things that got eliminated. The husband said that he can put the granite himself once we're living in the house already. So that's what's happening, I think. Their neighbor at work installs granite so they let the husband borrow pieces of granite to match it with the rest of the house. We have not decided yet which one we like but I'm sure we will sooner or later. Now I'm wondering if we can also start thinking about changing our faucets into the Grohe faucets we

Little Fatty...

Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since my new laptop is 'dead' at the moment, I have to use my old laptop to do my online stuff. It's a 7 year old laptop so you can just imagine how slow it is. Aside from being, yes, old, it also has a lot of files which make it even slower. Oh and it dies once in a while as well but at least I can turn it back on unlike the new one. Anyway, as I was going through the files on this laptop, I came across the little one's baby pictures. There's a bunch of them actually & I can only shake my head wondering where time went as I look at her baby pictures. She was a little fatty until she was about 2 years old. Hubby and I used to joke that she may just need some diet pills when she grows up because she was really chubby. Look at her in this picture. I think she was about 3 months here. But as she grew older, she also started to lose the baby fats. Right now, she's really slim. You know what's funny, Mommy still has the 'baby fa
PPM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What do you want to be when you grow up? How many times have we actually heard that both directly and indirectly. I was asked that when I was younger and my answer was: 'I don't know.' A lot of kids though have specific answers like teacher, doctor, police officer, etc. But so far, I have not heard a kid say 'business owner'. I wonder if kids already know at a young age that owning a business is such a big responsibility. Yes, it's ideal but 'hardwork' nevertheless. I know a lot of people who want to have their own business but don't have either the resources or the will power to do so. Personally, I don't have both. Ha! If I have the resources though to start my own business I'd probably go for it but I'll make sure to consult a place that offers private placement memorandum services to help and guide me and my business. I know very little about owning a business but I know that most of the time capital is no

My '2001' Post

Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yep, that means I've reached the 2,000 mark with the post prior to this one. Wow! I actually just saw it. So. For. My. 2001. Post. Let me share 2 of my most favorite pictures of the 2 most important people in my life right now...
When?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As usual, I called home on All Saints' Day which happens to be my birthday as well. I've always done that since the time I was teaching in Taiwan. My family in the Philippines has always considered All Saints' Day special not only because it's a relative's birthday but because it's a day where we all get together...both dead and alive. The last time I was home on All Saints' Day was in 1996. That's more than 10 years ago. Thus the 'traditional phone call' on my birthday. As always, it was one looonggg phone chat with my siblings and their kiddos. The million dollar question was still: When are you coming home? Christmas this year would have been perfect but it's not happening. Hubby asked them instead...when are you coming here to visit? He even went as far as saying that orlando vacations are always the best since Disney World is there. Of course they would love to come here for a visit but it's easier said t

Win Some....Lose Some

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About a month ago we decided to finally switch from cable to satellite. We've been with the cable company for more than a year and within that span of time they actually raised their price 3 times. As soon as we learned about the latest increase in their monthly fee, we switched right away. That meant having technicians coming over to 'hook and unhook'. It's a good thing I'm married to McGyver so I wouldn't have to let strangers into our house because my McGyver already did all the hooking and unhooking in the house himself. During the course of all these, McGyver found out that some wires for the entertainment center are actually crossed. He had to take down the TV wall mount [with the TV of course] to try and 'uncross' them. Of course he was able to do it but the mount suffered some minor damage. It's nothing major but just the same, we are now looking into buying another mount for the TV. Oh well, I guess you win some and
That's our Little One for Halloween. If before we [I actually] can just dress her up and make her all cute and pretty, that's not the case this Halloween. She wanted to be a BAT...not 'Bat Girl' but a BAT! The bat wings was the one that took forever to get here. Lots of people complimented her wings so I guess it's worth it. I told her she can use them again next year. Yeah, right! She said no of course. I told her she won't outgrow them so we can recycle them, right? But no can do so we'll see. Maybe she won't even want to be in costume next year....hehe.... That's about it for now. I have so much to blog about but I'm not in the mood. Why? CLUE: My less than a year old laptop decided to die on me....AGAIN!
