Vertigo

From Wikipedia : Vertigo /ˈvɜː(ɹ)tɨɡoʊ/ (from the Latin vertō "a whirling or spinning movement"[1]) is a subtype of dizziness, where there is a feeling of motion when one is stationary. That's what I seem to have. I first experienced it a few months ago but it hasn't happened in a while until yesterday. The first time one I experienced it, I went to my doctor because it scared me since it was the first time I've ever felt something like that. Anyway, the last episode was not as bad though and it went away when I was able to take a nap. I guess my lack of sleep was the main cause this time around. Today is a lot better. I feel a wee bit sleepy but not dizzy. Hopefully I won't have another episode later in the day. Anyway, it's TGIF again. It's also the last day of the month and will be the start of the last month of 2012. How time flies. In just a few weeks, it will be Christmas again...then we'll welcome 2013. Have a great weekend everyone.

Whatta 'Blast'

Having [and running] your own business is not an easy thing to do. I don't even have one and I feel it must be hard! Ha! That's because I'm married to someone who has a small business that's been running for more than 6 years now. Every little pinch his business feels, we feel it here at home as well. And there are a lot of pinches I can tell you! It is a very small business, with just him and his partner. They can only afford to pay themselves to stay afloat. Of course the economy has a lot to do with that as well. Anyway, in the years that they've been in business, they've been able to buy the machines they need for their day to day operations. They still have a few pieces of equipment they need to buy but they're surviving with what they have. One piece of equipment they don't have yet is blasting equipment, but they have started looking for [dry ice blasting equipment for sale] recently. Blasting is very important for their finished product an

Back to the Daily Grind

Image
After a 4-day weekend, we are now back to our daily grind. Thanksgiving came and went without a hitch. We had the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and pumpkin pie. We would have been perfectly fine with just the pie for dessert but a certain little girl wanted to make brownies so we did...from scratch. Ha! Hubby also decided to make a pumpkin roll bread because there was some pumpkin mix leftover from the pumpkin pie mix. So instead of having just one dessert [which would have been great since I'm trying to lose some weight], we ended up with these 3.... It's just the 3 of us so it took us 3 days to finish up what we prepared...and that's only the dessert. I still have a little bit of turkey left in the fridge. I guess I gained back whatever weight I lost [plus some more of course] in the last week or so. Oh well...it's the holidays. Anyway, we didn't go anywhere during the TD weekend. Unlike many other people, we decided to just s

Happy Thanksgiving....

Image
Since it's Thanksgiving on Thursday, it will be a short 'work' week for most of us in this part of the world. A lot of people are actually on the road already on their way to visit family across the country to spend Thanksgiving together. As for us, we'll be staying put. We're going to spend Thanksgiving in our humble abode with just the three of us. That's the way it's been for the last several years because it's how we prefer it. It was only during my first few years here that we actually celebrated Thanksgiving with hub's family. We still get intouch with them [well, mostly him] on the day itself but only via phone...and that's the way he prefers it. Long chats on the phone while lounging in the comfort of home. Maybe in the future we will be spending this day with his relatives again...we just don't know when. Anyway, we have everything we need for big day. The bird is 'chilaxin' in the fridge all thawed out waiting on me. I hav

Renting Out

When we moved out of our other house, we had a feeling that we won't be able to sell it right away. The economy has already started tanking so it was a no-brainer. We looked at our options and renting it out was definitely one of them and we did try to do that...for a couple of weeks. We had a temporary tenant who stayed there with the aim of buying it but things didn't work out on his end so he moved out. After that we got plenty more offers from people who want to rent it but we declined because we're afraid we may end up with not so desirable renters. Our house has been sitting idle for years now and from the looks of it, it may stay that way. Lately, we've been considering what we've been avoiding in the last few years...renting it out. Yes we still have that fear of getting undesirable renters that's why we're looking into doing Rental Screening Solutions to help us, yes, screen possible renters. The people that had approached us so far were either f

A Stroll by the Beach

Image
Last weekend was defintely one of those weekends where it would be a waste if you just stayed indoors. The weather was gorgeous. Not too cold, not too hot and of course, rain free. In other words, perfect. So on Sunday even if we didn't plan in going out, we went out. At first it was just to go to the Philippine store to get my 'supplies'. After that, we thought we'd just head home. But that changed quickly. We decided to swing by the beach instead. The beach we went to is just a stone's throw away from our other house. When the little one was just a baby, we would go there just to walk around. Mind you it's not a world-class beach. No white sand or any tikis or anything like that. Vacationers visit the place from time to time just to sunbathe and that's about it. I rarely see people swimming there actually. Still, it's a beach and it's nice to stroll there once in a while. Anyway, we decided to have lunch first in one of the few restaurants in t

Soothing Effect

The sound of flowing water. That's probably one of my and my husband's favorite sound because of its soothing effect. This is the reason why we fell in love with that one piece of property we visited in GA not too long ago. It has a creek with running water cascading down some rocks. Sadly we're not putting down an offer on that property for some other reasons. So if I want to hear that soothing sound of flowing water, I might as well get me one of those water fountains indoor that we can put here at home. The sound of the flowing water from the fountain will definitely simulate that of the running water in that creek at the property we like. I'm sure I can convince the husband to get one because he also likes that sound. Can I say Christmas present, maybe?

Dr. Russell Dohner

No, he's not my doctor but I sure wish he is! He's called the '$5 Doctor' . That's because 5 bucks is all he charges his patients when they come for a visit. Yep, he is for real. If you get the chance, you can visit his clinic in Rushville, IL. He started his practice there in 1955 and never left. His office, according to the article, doesn't have any of the high tech gadgets we usually see in clinics nowadays but people flock to his clinic nonetheless. No appointments needed to see him and he sees his patients on a first come, first served basis. The $5 fee is also waived if a patient comes in for result [lab works] reading only. I've read about his story a few months ago. I wanted to write about it just because I think that he should be an inspiration not only to doctors but to everyone else. But I got sidetracked and wasn't able to write about it. Then I came across this article about him in Yahoo yesterday so I decided to finally post something a

Space Dilemma

A few weeks ago, hubby came home with pictures of a piano. It's not a brand new piano though. Someone he knows is getting divorced. As part of their agreement, the guy gets the piano. He doesn't really want it so he's selling it at a very low price. The only problem it has is it's missing a stainless steel piano hinge ...as far as he knows. Hubby wanted to see the piano so the guy took pictures of it...which in turn were the ones shown to me. It looks pretty good. I would love to have a piano in the house especially if we can get it at a fraction of its original price but there is one small problem. We don't have the space for it. We tried to look around the house to see if there's anyway we can fit it in. Sadly, it's just not possible...unless we want a piano on our front lawn. We're a bit bummed we can't grab the opportunity to own a piano right now but that's how it is. Oh well. Maybe next time...

Going back to Mobia...

During my last blood test, it was found out that I now have an 'underactive thyroid'. It's the opposite of what I've been diagnosed back in 2009 which was hyperthyroidism  which I've been chronicling here since it first started. I was promptly put on medication to slow down my thyroid and it's been working for the past few years. In the course of my treatment, the dosage of my medication has been changed several times per my progress. I started with 6 pills a day I think, down to half a pill a day as the latest dose. My doctor predicted that I may be off my meds in about 3 years. He's right on the money because it's been now 3 years ~ more or less ~ and I'm off of my medications...for now. Hopefully it will stay that way from now on but we'll see.... I had the feeling that I may have an underactive thyroid even before the blood test proved it. For one, I've been gaining weight steadily. Yes, I'm back with that dilemma called 'weigh

Freezing....

Image
That's how I felt when I got up early this morning. I knew before going to bed last night that it was going to get cold early in the morning but I wasn't prepared on how cold it actually got. Still, I decided not to turn on the heat and just bundled up with more blankets when I headed back to bed after hubby left for work. I made sure that the little one was also bundled up before I went back to sleep. When it was time for us to finally get up, I checked our thermostat...mid-60s! Outside it's even colder so I decided to turn on the heat already. My allergies act up once it gets really cold and I'm not going to wait for that to happen. I didn't set it too high...just 70 degrees. Both the little one and I are wearing our warm fleece clothing to combat the cold so we're good. It was in the 30s earlier but right now we are in the upper 50s already. According to our local meteorologist we'll warm fast. The highest will be in the mid-70s so I'm hoping to s

Another Week...

Image
It's Monday! And it's been a while since I last posted here. Not much going on so I didn't have much to say actually. But there were a couple of things that happened last week. First, trick or treatin'. We have a 'tween' in the house now but she still likes to do this annual thing even if we only take her to the mall to do it. It's been some kind of a tradition since we've been doing it eversince she was a few months old. There were a couple of years when we weren't able to go to the mall to do it because of scheduling conflicts but she always had a costume no matter what. She likes dressing up so why not. This year, she was 'Cleopatra'. She enjoyed it if only for the eye make-up I put on her...and of course the lovely costume she wore. As usual there were quite a few people at the mall where we always go for this kind of thing, mostly senior citizens watching kids parade in costume. A few complimented the little one which made her very h
