Buttercup Butterflies

We see a few butterflies flying around our yard everyday and the buttercup butterfly is usually one of them. I think that's what they are anyway. Here's a picture I got from a site called Butterfly Utopia and they definitely look like this one.

Anyway, we've been having some cute encounters with these buttercup butterflies in the last couple of weeks whenever we're playing badminton. I don't know much about these cute creatures but it seems that everytime we see them flying around they're almost always chasing another butterfly [of their kind of course]. The little one said it's probably mating season. Hmmm??? Anyhooo...the shuttlecock that we use for our badminton games is yellow, much like the color of the butterflies. What do you know? Our shuttlecock is being chased by these buttercups. It's pretty cute actually that I wish I can capture it on video or take a picture of it. But how can I do that if I'm playing? I may just ask the husband to watch us one time and be the one to capture that. The little one find it very amusing whenever the butterfly dives in when the shuttlecock hits the ground. Who am I kidding....I find it very amusing as well. Won't you???

Rain, Rain and More Rain...

And did I say rain? That's how our first few days of Fall have been going. It's not continuous but it still keeps the ground pretty wet. Little one is not very happy because our afternoon games have been on hold since Sunday. Right now it's looking quite promising but we can't be too certain because the rain just pops on us much like the mushrooms that have been popping on our yard since last week. We have these white spots a.k.a. mushroom heads everywhere. If only they're edible, I'd be having mushroom for dinner every night...but they're not. This makes me think about how I used to hunt for mushrooms under our banana plants in our yard when I was growing up after a night time rain. Those mushrooms were definitely yummy. It still makes me salivate just thinking about how my mother would put them on top of cooking rice so I could have them for breakfast.

Anyway, even though it's been raining a lot here, the temperature are still staying well above 80s sometimes even hitting the low 90s almost everyday. But even if the Fall temps are not felt it's definitely Fall already because it gets darker earlier now and the it's still dark at 7 AM when I get up in the morning. I have to turn on the lights now instead of just opening the blinds. If there's one thing I'm very excited about this change of season...it's the 'extra hour' of sleep we'll get sometime in November [?]. Ha! Am I lame or what? Oh well...

Ready and Available

...and hopefully, able. I'm referring to lawyers around here. It seems that there is a lawyer for everything nowadays. I mean if you need, say a san diego sexual harassment attorney, one will be available for you for sure. How can I be sure of that? The advertisements I see on TV. They run 24/7 around here. I actually think that's a good thing because you just never know when you're going to need one. I believe my husband finds the lawyers he hires through the yellow book. At least that's how he found the immigration lawyer we used when I moved here. Anyway, I just wish it's also like that back in the Philippines. Fortunately we never needed a lawyer when I was growing up but I can't help but wonder now how that would have gone if we needed one. There are no advertisements of any kind about lawyer there back then. I'm not quite sure about the present but I'm guessing nothing much has changed. It's a good thing I know a soon-to be lawyer now back home. At least I know who to contact there just in case we will need one in the future.

Summer Out! Fall In...

And it's a rainy first day of Autumn around here. The rain actually woke me up around 5 o'clock this morning. It stopped for a few hours but it started again about an hour ago. It's on and off now but it pours when it's on. If it continues to be like this then the little one and I won't be able to play badminton in the backyard later on. Oh well...we can always do it tomorrow.

Just like the past couple of weekends, we're staying indoors this weekend. I still don't feel like going anywhere. My stomach is much better compared to how it felt a few days ago. I have to make small changes with my eating. I try to eat small meals every few hours. I'm still not consistent but I'm hoping I can get used to it and make it a habit. It seems to be helping that's why I want to keep on doing it. I just hope I can do it on a regular basis and not only when I have some tummy problems.

I am hoping to feel a lot better as we welcome this new season. I'm quite tired feeling these aches and pains quite regularly. It seems to be the norm around here now. Sigh...

Rich with Coins?

We finally emptied the little one's piggy bank a few weeks ago. She's been waiting for that for a long time. We told her that we'd open it when the coin she's putting in couldn't get in anymore because it's so full. That happened so it was time to empty it. As soon as we dumped it all on her bed, she said that she's rich! Yep...rich with coins that is. We told her that she's not THAT rich yet unless she can find a bunch of silver dimes as well as other rare coins in the pile. She was up to the challenge and started sorting the coins right away. She got excited when she found something different from the pile. She thought she hit it big but it turned out that it's a token that got in the mix. I guess Dad gave her one without knowing that it's not a coin. Anyway, she already finished sorting the coins and she didn't find any silver dime or any other valuable coin. I guess she has to get rich the conventional way....work.

A Recurrence

Eversince I can remember I've always had a problem with digestion. I have 'gas' a lot of times and passing it is not very easy for me...unlike many people. I've never really consulted a doctor about it because it's something I've been living with since I was a little girl. Generally it does not affect my day to day functions but there are days when all I want to do is lay down because it's the only way I can get relief. There are some days though like the past few days that I get these terrible gas pains that even laying down cannot help. These are the times when I have to take something to relieve me of the pain. Some days the medicine works almost immediately, some days it takes forever. Today was more like the latter. I took the pill but the pain didn't go away as fast as I would like it to. It did go away eventually but I had to stop what I was doing because of the discomfort I was feeling. Ugh! Maybe it's time I ask a doctor about it. If it doesn't get any better in the coming day or two, I may just have to do that. Besides my "conscience" [aka DH] has been bugging me to do just that anyway. So yes, I may just go find me a gastroenterologist nearby. I just hate that the list of the doctors I have to see is getting longer. Is that a sign of aging or what???

Anyway, that's what's going on with me the last few days. I call it a 'recurrence' because I haven't had this stomach pain in quite a while. I remember having it regularly when I first started teaching. I remember having a stash of canned milk in my classroom so I could just drink it whenever I was getting the pangs in my stomach. I always thought that was because of work-related stress. Come to think of it, this one I'm having right now MAY also be caused by stress. Ha! Oh well. I just hope it goes away already. I hate it when I have it...just like any other 'pains'.

and then it's F-R-I-D-A-Y!!!!

It's been a long time coming. Well, 6 days to be exact since it was last here. Still, we wait for it like no other, right?

So what have I been up to? Na-da! None. Nothing. Exciting life I have, eh? But it's fine with me. I have no problem with it. I've been doing the same thing day in day out with one exception this week. The little one and I were not able to play our daily 30-minute badminton games since Tuesday. Both our shuttlecocks gave out so we didn't have much choice but to rest our rackets for the meantime. Hopefully we'll be able to get replacements for them this weekend so we can do it again next week.

Work has slowed down a wee bit for the man of the house so much so that he's been home for the past couple of weekends now. I'm not sure [yet] about this coming weekend but there's a bigger chance he'll also be home. As usual, we have no plans for the weekend but we were talking last week, I think, and we said that we should start taking some trips again like we did last year. Georgia is still on top of our list of course since we haven't really explored it much. The little one likes it there. She said she likes how the people talk. Maybe we can also visit the Carolinas as well during one of those trips. Fingers crossed.

If we don't have anywhere to go for this weekend, I may just do some weeding around our plants. I haven't done it in 3 weeks so I can see weeds all around them again. Some people may find it odd that I like weeding but that's me... an oddball. Ha!

Anyway, enjoy the weekend. In other words, whatever you do...have fun with it.

Laid Back Weekend

I stayed home all weekend long while hubby went to visit a friend and store [with the little one in tow]. I didn't want to go anywhere so I begged off not to go with them. I was just not in the mood to go anywhere so I stayed home and did some stuff around the house. And for the first time maybe in a year, I picked up my guitar again. Since I haven't played it for such a long time, I had to tune it again. That's probably the part I hate the most and that's because I don't have the ear to do it. I bought a tuner a couple of years ago but I already forgot how to use it...haha. Hubby looked for an app for guitar tuning and found one almost immediately. He installed it on my tablet and voila...problem solved. I'm not really good in playing the guitar. I can't just pick it up and start playing a song. I need a copy of the song complete with tabs of course. The little one sang along with me while I was playing but only for one song. At least I was able to accompany her while she was singing. Woo hoo. I'm hoping I can continue playing to at least practice [and to get better at it hopefully].

Another thing that I've been trying to play 'catch-up' with are the videos I have stored either in disc or the computer. Or some mini-cassettes. Yes, mini-cassettes. We had to dig out the old video camera in order to play the cartridges but transferring the files proved to be a bigger challenge than we like. My desktop is way too advanced for the driver of the palmcorder so we had to use hubby's desktop which is an ancient computer and has an older operating system. He had to 'operate' on it [hello computer surgery] to fix the fire wire on the CPU only to find out that we need a certain kind of cable to do that. In short, we're now waiting on that cable to come in the mail in the next few days so we can complete the tedious task of transferring the files from those mini-cassette to the computer. I'm hoping it'll work out fine. We didn't realize that we still have a lot of raw footages in those mini-tapes. We thought we were able to transfer them all on discs. NOPE!

That's what I've been up to the past weekend. I was kind of feeling a bit 'down' and my inability to sleep soundly at night is not helping in anyway. It may even be the culprit as to why I've been feeling this way for the last several days. Hearing about the passing of a sister in law's sister also dampened my spirit somehow. I only met her once but hubby met up with her and his brother a couple of weekends ago and he said she was fine so it was a shock. It just made me think once more that life is not in our hands and that it can be taken away anytime. We just never know when it's our time already...

The Hunt

Yep, we are on a hunt. For. A. Plaid. Skirt. And not just any plaid skirt. It's for a PURPLE plaid skirt. It's proving to be a very difficult task. I thought it won't be that hard to find it online but I'm wrong ~ so what else is new ~. I did find some online but they're either too expensive or too edgy for our taste. By the way, it's not for me. It's for the little one. So we decided to head out last Saturday to see if they have what we're looking for at the mall or at the stores outside of the mall. Nope. Well, sort of. Some stores have plaid skirts. Not just in the color she wants. We found one in a shop in the mall but it's more like a costume. It's a costume shop so what did I expect, eh? The color was right but the style, not quite. I was actually on the verge of buying it [because I was exhausted already] but we decided against it at the last minute. Still, we hid the skirt behind the other skirts just in case we decide to go for it. Well, we didn't.

After hours of walking and store hopping...we failed. I was trying to convince her to just get the usual red/black plaid skirt that a few stores carry but to no avail. She has her mind set and there's no way of changing it. Dad said that he may just buy the material and sew it himself. What? I know he'll do it...if he HAS the time. I have no doubt in my mind that he can pull it off because he already did so in the past. But like I said...time is not on his side because he's very busy at work. And me? I'll pass because I've never sewn anything in my life and I'm not starting now. I'm also skeptical that we'll find purple plaid cloth that easily. So the Daddy making the skirt himself....unlikely for now. Oh well. Like I said, we'll keep looking. Who knows she may even get over her obsession with it soon. It happened before...it can happen again, yes?

New Store

One of the things we did during the long weekend was to visit a newly opened store here in our area. I am not familiar with the store but hubby is and he's excited that they opened a branch near his place of work. It's not an upscale store. It's actually the opposite of that. The store sells everything from plants to electronics to clothes. We didn't buy anything but we roamed the whole store just to get an idea as to what they have. Hubby was elated to find a lot of supplies and paraphernalia for work like the black stallion gloves that they use at work as well as the big generator they have on display. He said he now knows where to go when he needs materials for work as well as supplies for home. I think we spent a good hour just walking this very spacious store. I believe they have a grand opening sale this weekend. Guess who's going?
