My Other Half or My Significant Other...
The original title of this tag is: My Better Half....well, I'd rather call him my Other Half or my Significant other since I'd like to believe that we're equal in this house...o ang taray, di ba???
Anyway, I have quite a few pics of my hubby when he was younger but I really like his baby picture. Take a look...isn't he the cutest???
Let's try and answer some of Merydith's westions....
1. My hubby's first name is Michael - often the most popular name here in the States [or is it in the world?...hmm..can't remember it now.]
2. Okay the second question has a long answer. For the WHERE...we met online. For the HOW...I found him....gulat kayo 'no? Just like a lot of online match ups, I met mine in an online dating site. It started like this. A very good friend of mine told me sometime in 2000 that she was getting married. Surprised would not even come close to describing how I reacted. Why? Because she didn't have a boyfriend when I last saw her...and our last meeting was just a couple of months prior to her 'announcement'. I was, of course, curious.
So I asked her how she met this guy....and she told me that she met him ONLINE! The horror!!! I was beyond shocked. Hasn't she been reading the news about online creeps? And to think that this friend of mine is a well-respected teacher in an International school in Manila so I couldn't believe that she actually went with online dating. Anyway, I told her how I really felt but at the same time, I started looking online just to see what she got herself into. I registered in some sites but with minimal information. No pictures at all. I just wanted access to see what's going on there. It was free anyway.
My co-teacher friends [men and women] in Taiwan and I would surf these dating sites just to see other people's profile. It was fun actually. We never tried to correspond with anybody. It was during one of these site surfings that I came across my hubby's profile. I read his description of himself and I just sat there thinking: This man is describing me. It's like, I was the one that wrote HIS Profile. So I looked at his picture [stared?] to see how he 'really' looks like. He didn't look bad..not bad at all...
As soon as I was alone I just threw all cautions in the wind and went ahead and sent him a note. That was the start of it all. That was April 21, 2001 in Taiwan....April 22 here in the US. We started emailing. Then chatting online...then hours of phone patch. He was curious how I looked like since I didn't have any picture in my profile. I sent him a couple the first time, then 5 more, 10 more, then I just started sending him pics of my every movement....LOL. We chatted a lot and talked on the phone everyday. We even had a record of almost 16 hrs of phone patch in one call....yep, 16 hrs.
We took our time...we "met" online in April 2001, met in person June 2001 then flew here together a few days later, got married in August 2001. How's that for taking our time? Everything happened a few days shy of 4 MONTHS - from my very first note I sent him to us getting married. A year after that first note, we had our little angel. Now I'm wondering what to tell our little girl when she tells us that she's in love with someone she just met ...online ......hmmmmm
Oh, if you're wondering about my friend, she's happily married as well to her Belgian husband and they have a little girl, too. Want to know something funny? This friend of mine married her husband in December 2000 in the Phils. I even attended to meet him. He's a very nice guy, btw. Anyway, in March 2001, she flew to Belgium to be with the hubby. From there she emailed me and told me that they were getting married again in Belgium in July 2001. And...she wanted to introduce me to her husband's friend. So I was kilig to the bones...hehe. So I made plans of flying there in June 2001 since it's summer vacation where I used to teach. But before I even had the chance to apply for my visa to Belgium, I met my Michael in April, days after my friend told me that she's matching me up with someone...and as you already read up top, instead of flying to Belgium to meet a "prospective" boyfriend,hehe... I flew in the US to marry my prince. It's now more than 6 yrs and we're still going strong.
Whew...what a long story. I just love telling our story. Let's move on to the next question before Merydith starts another tag...jokes Merydith....
3. Characteristics: He's driven. He has the ambition to really make it big. He's really smart and funny. I also know that we [me and our baby] are his priority. His willingness to do any kind of legal job to support us and keep me from leaving our little one in other people's care is another reason why I'm just into him. He's also 'trained'. He can keep the house in order and he puts his laundry in the hamper. He takes out the trash and MOST OF ALL...he does the grocery shopping...and he does it right. All I have to do is to write a list and he gets it all. He's been doing it since we've been together. Why? Because I can't drive...LOL. Does he pressure me to learn? Some days, yes, most days, no.
4. Plans in 20 yrs....retired and enjoying the fruit of our labors. In 30 yrs? Who knows...probably just enjoying life with grandkids...
Wow...this short tag turned into a novel for me. Hmmm....looks like Merydith tagged everyone in her list which happens to be the same list I have....Most of them anyway. So I'm not tagging anyone. If you want to snag this, feel free and I would love to hear about your significant other and your love story as well...
