For work-at-home Moms like me, a home office is somewhat a necessity. Now, home office is different depending on who you ask. For some their home office is the whole house. For others, it's either the dining table, the kitchen counters, the couch or the bed. Me? It used to be all of the above. That is still the case most of the time but I have a job now where a 'real home office' is actually needed. A space where it's quiet and away from unnecessary noises and distractions when I'm working. Fortunately, we have a home office. Unfortunately, it still needs some office furniture pieces which we are hoping to get this year. Anyway, for the last 7 years or so that I've been a WAHM, I rarely used the home office. It kinda' beats the purpose of working at home if I stay stuck in an office for the most part that's why I'd rather stay on the dining table or the couch most of the time. But that has to change soon. Beside, I also want to have some kind of spa...

Weather. Today. Very windy. I can see the dust flying around by the dirt road. I can also dry leaves flying around. It's a good thing that the neighbor's tree has no more leaves or we would have a backyard full of dry leaves...again. Tomorrow, it may be raining or may be sunny. Who knows...thankfully I'm a wahm so I don't really need to deal with this crazy weather. Work. Sporadic. Because work has been so slow lately, I think some of my fellow "wahmers" have decided to branch out and look for jobs outside the home until our work-at-home jobs start to pick up [soon I hope]. How do I know that? There was a little bit of work released late last night. I did a few batches then went to bed fully expecting not to find anymore work when I get up in the morning. Nope...work was still there when I logged in to our server this morning. That meant nobody logged on after me last night and before me this morning. Lucky me because I got to snag most of the work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Being able to work at home is probably one of the best things that has happened to me. Just like many WAHMs out there, my landing of a work at home job was mostly ‘luck’. I was at the right place at the right time. But with one messed up economy we have right now, my work at home jobs have been slower than ever for the past few months. Yes, we get work every now and then but I can’t help but wonder if everything will ever go back to normal as far as the regular flow of work is concerned. Because of this slow-down, I am seriously considering a home-based business. Nothing too big or too fancy, just something I can do while I am waiting for my regular work-at-home jobs to get back to normal. Now, I know it’s not easy to start any kind of business especially something that’s home-based but with research and a little work, I may just be able to pull it off. I found a great resource article that presents some really good points on how to start in building a home...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ....the weight I mean. It seems that gaining some unwanted poundage is one of the downside of my being a work at home mom [WAHM]. Unlike when I was still teaching where I had to tackle flights of stairs to get to the classrooms, now I only have to take a few steps to get to my “work place”. There are even days when I would choose to sit on the bed with my laptop which means even lesser walking or movements on my part. My treadmill is right beside my bed but it’s not making me motivated at all even if I see it day in day out. So I’ve been looking into diet pills more and more to help me get rid of my unwanted weight but I have not really decided yet if I should go that way. Maybe I can ask the husband to hide my laptop before he leaves for work…then I will be forced to look for it which means more movements on my part. Is that a great idea, or what? Ha!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's Monday once again. I will be very busy at least until tomorrow as we're trying to beat a deadline...again. That's one of the downside of my job...when work is released, we're usually given only a few days to have it done. Since competition is tough, we have to always try to make it to the deadline at least in order to keep our clients happy. My blogging will have to wait until then. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think this is the 3rd time I'm re-posting this entry. This was my very first entry on this blog titled: My Life as a WAHM. But due to a popular public demand [yep, it's a 'popular demand' as 2 people asked me to blog about it...LOL], here it is again. I believe the question regarding my WAHJs is the second most asked question [first being: Why don't you DRIVE yet? ] to me. Questions range from: How did you land your jobs? What's the/your secret in landing a WAHJ? Can you give me tips? Can you help me get a WAHJ? Unfortunately, I don't have the answers to the last 2 questions. I really don't have any secrets or tips. I just applied and applied until I got accepted...which answers the first question. As for the last question, I really wish I can help BUT since telecommuting is very competitive, the chances of having vacancies is next to nothing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Working at home definitely has its ups and down. It's obviously very convenient as I'm working in the comfort of my own home. But if there's anything I'm not really crazy about it is the lack of motivation to actually move. When I was teaching, I had to at least walk a few yards to get to the classrooms. But now that I'm working home, it seems my backside is glued on the chair. I walk maybe 10 steps a day. Not good, eh? I've been planning in being more active but sometimes I'm too comfortable to even move. So I'm trying to read on those diet pills. Yep, diet pills like Phentermine . But I am not going to take any diet pills yet. I'm just reading on them. Good thing I have a site bookmarked that reviews different diet pills. I can at least get the information I need if I ever decide to go that direction.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For those who are not familiar with it, LiveOps is a virtual call center that hires work at home agents. It was one of the companies I applied for back in 2001. The job itself is not hard, if you have the confidence and the patience to sit by the phone to take inbound calls. I was able to pass everything but did not have enough courage to take live calls. Anyway, I read in one of the chat boards I visit every now and then that there is an ongoing lawsuit against this company. In the post is the link leading to the said Class Action Lawsuit against the company. Two of their complaints are unpaid training and unpaid overtime fees as required by Federal Law if one works more than 40 hours a week. Here's a part of the said lawsuit: The Plaintiffs allege that they and other similarly situated Home Agents (1) were improperly classified as "independent contractors" by LiveOps, Inc., (2) that LiveOps, Inc. controlled most, if not all, major asp...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Time management is probably the biggest struggle I have as a WAHM or a work-at-home-mom. I have the basic schedule that I follow but I want a more predictable schedule. My work schedule pretty is much dependent on work of course. Unlike other 8-5 jobs, work in the work-at-home industry is very unpredictable. I work for 3 different companies in the same industry and some other side jobs that I only do on certain times of the year...plus the blogging of course. And all of these jobs I have are in demand jobs so the competition is stiff. When work is there, everyone is working. That means I have to work, work, work. My blogging is the last on my list as I only do it if I have nothing to do. Why? Well, it's because I don't look at it as a J-O-B. I've been doing this for the last 5 years or so and I still struggle with this 'time management' thing. I have always been big on schedules so being in 'limbo' is not something I am crazy...

Yes...my allergy's been attacking me for about a week now!!! It's just not going away. It doesn't go away really but at least with the Benadryl that I take, the sneezing can stop....not this time. I know what's causing it....the crazy weather here in Florida. Crazy as in LOCO big time. One day it's hot, the next day it's raining, then it's cold. Arrgghhh!!!! Anyway, I haven't been able to visit all my blogger fwens daily like I used to. Aside from these allergy attacks, invasion is more like it, there are 2 reasons for that. First....I am getting a lot of "Add-On Errors" in some of the blogs I visit. I'm not sure why but it only happens to some [and probably happens to me only, that's just my luck I guess] and not to the same blogs all the time. When I first came over here in the states, I thought of applying for a teaching job. I even sent a request to my county to send me the packet for a teaching position. Well as I soon realized I have to get to the school in order to teach, I decided to ditch the idea of teaching in our local school here. Since Plan A fell apart I decided to go to Plan B - finding an online job. As I mentioned in some my posts, plan B is working out for me. So, in the spirit of 'giving back'...I am planning on posting some job leads here on my blog. I do searches almost everyday anyway so why not take it a step further and start sharing what I find. I know a lot of my blogger friends do this...work at home. And I feel really blessed and fortunate to have been given the chance to earn a living while raising my daughter myself. What I make is not what one would consider enough to survive but it's good to know I'm contributing something regardless of the amount. I remember one conversation with my hubby about the money I make doing what I'm doing.
