Largest Beef Recall by USDA....

===================================

Yep, another recall. This time it's 143 Million Pounds of frozen beef that came from a slaughterhouse in California that's being recalled. Fortunately the recall is NOT based on any illnesses since none has been reported. USDA is saying that the health threat from the beef that was recalled is likely small. Beef affected by this latest recall are those dated February 1, 2008 which came from Chino-based Westland/Hallmark Meat Co.

Why the recall then? This is because Westland failed to contact their veterinarian when cattle became non ambulatory. The failure to do so meant that the cattle did not receive complete and proper inspection which makes the cattle unfit for human consumption.

So if you regularly buy beef, make sure to check the date stamp on it and where it came from. It's better to be safe than sorry, you know. As for my family, we don't buy red meat anymore so we're off the hook on this one.
