A Valuable Gift...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you ask me what I am thankful for this Holiday season, I would have to say I’m thankful for my family. It took a while for me to finally settle down and start a family of my own. I honestly didn’t think that I’ll be sitting here today having a lovely 6 year old with the man I’d be spending the rest of my life with. Cheesy, eh? I was almost in my mid-30s when I met and married my husband. We got pregnant soon after we got together and had the baby a few days shy of our first 'meeting'. To say it’s exciting is an understatement. We were beyond that. The moment we learned we were expecting, we vowed to do everything we can to protect and make sure our little one’s future will be secured. That’s why we decided to enroll with Cryo-Cell and have her cord blood preserved.
Just last week as I was watching TV, the news came on and one of the topics they had was about this little 2 year old boy who was diagnosed with a disease before his first birthday. They were told that he won’t be able to make it to his second birthday. But his parents sought another doctor’s help who in turn used the little boy’s cord blood cells that the parents decided to have preserved. Lo and behold, that saved that little boy's life. Watching the little boy now at 2 year old makes me feel glad we did what we did when we enrolled with Cryo-Cell 6 years ago. I wish that nothing as serious happens to our little one but it sure is great to know that we have prepared for it just in case.
I have a couple of friends who are expecting right now. And yes, both of them are getting something from the Gifting Page of Cryo-Cell’s website. Times are tough nowadays especially on the economic front. So I consider anything that lasts a lifetime valuable…and this gift is definitely one of them.
I agree with your thoughts on this topic. I have written several posts on cord blood banking and stem cell research at http://just4families.com
I think more hospitals should be involved in the collection process.
thanks
