SubPrime....linguists word of the year...

Subprime - "a risky or less than ideal loan, mortgage or investment." Because of the mortgage crisis, this word is now the "word of the year" for the American Dialect Society. The word is not really new because a lot of bankers havebeen using it. It's just that people from all walks of life are affected by this 'mortgage crisis'... a lot people are forced, maybe tempted, to get a subprime loan in order to get a house of their own hoping that the real estate industry will recover...which is not happening anytime soon.

Some of the words that 'subprime' beat are 'facebook, green, Googleganger and waterboarding'. I thought global warming will take the cake for 2007. Guess not, eh?
