Homeschool or Not????

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been 'homeschooling' our little one...unofficial since we have not really decided yet if we will go with private school or public school kind of home schooling. I'm still reading on these 2 but basically if we choose public school, we need to send a letter of intent to the district in our county letting them know of our decision to homeschool her. If we choose to go with the private school, no need for a letter of intent since there is some kind of an autonomy for private schools.
I still don't drive. That's the major reason we decided to do the “homeschooling”. I know it's probably the best for her because she learns at her pace. She's turning 6 soon so I am now thinking of what to do next. For the past week or so, I've been trying to read more about this “homeschooling”. The information is overwhelming that I am somehow questioning myself if I can really do this. Can I??
Here's a rough draft of what she has learned already.
- Reading: She reads way above her level. She reads the books all on her own. Her comprehension is also good. She does True or False, Sequencing Events, Alphabetizing, etc.
- Writing: She writes and spells really well. I guess her reading abilities help her a lot on this aspect.
- Math:
* Addition - with and without regrouping
*Subtraction - with and without regrouping [borrowing]
*Multiplication - facts up to Table 11
*Division - facts up to Table 11
*Money - she can count and add coins and bills up until $100
*Time - she can read the clock [minute and hour hands] and draw hands on the clock if given the time.
- Science:
Solar System, Living and Non Living Things, Animals etc
- History:
Basic information. President, Country, Her address, etc. We just got her 3 books on
Geography and American History and we're starting on those.
Her social skills - not suffering as she can talk to just about anybody regardless of age.
So why am I somehow at a loss here? I don't really know the limit of what I should cover with her. I know it's my job to find out now but I'm just a bit overwhelmed at the moment after reading on homeschooling. I guess my mind is not really into it 100% and it should be. Once we're moved I am definitely going to read more on this. I guess I just needed to write it down to somehow release the pressure I'm feeling.
'Night everyone!
hello just want to inform you that you hitted a spot in TOP FIVE HOTTEST BLOG
ive got an award for you
have a great day
your daughter has learned stuff way above her age level. ethan has difficulty reading because he has been diagnosed wiht pre- dyslexia. he's having reading therapy now.
i also thought above home-schooling. i think, academically speaking, it is better lalo na kung mas mahusay pa tayo sa teachers. =)
the thing is, kaya mo bang mag Christmas program mag-isa? kaya mo bang mag tayo ng clubs for your daughter to join? kaya mo bang mag field trip mag-isa?
there are activites in regular schools that we just can't duplicate. your daughter needs friends, confidantes, crushes, competition, pain, joy... life experiences that is encountered in going to school....
ang haba ng comment ko. pwede ng post!
