One of the things I really want to do this year is to start a garden. I want a flower garden as well as a vegetable garden. My only problem is I’ve never really had a garden. My brother back home maintains a vegetable garden only for family consumption and I used to pick vegetables there. That’s about how far my gardening experience goes. I heard from a couple of blogger friends though that they are part of a group in their community that caters towards gardening. So I went to the community website here and found that there are different groups around here in our area and one of them is a gardening group. Cool. Now all I have to do is register and start my ‘education’ in gardening.
Now, here is some good news for groups who are into developing or starting a garden in their community but don’t have the needed funds or materials. Fiskars Project Orange Thumb grant may be the answer to your needs. At stake will be $1,000 in green goods and up to $1,500 in Fiskars gardening tools. So if you are part of such a group that’s interested in being considered for this grant, better start filing your application as the deadline will be February 17, 2009. If you are not part of any group yourself, make sure to let those you know who are to take advantage of this great grant. I will definitely mention this to the gardening group here in our area when I go to sign up for membership soon.
