The "Appendix"....

While browsing the news online last night, I came across a news article [study] that disputes what we've always believed..that the appendix is a useless organ in our body. That's what science books are telling us anyway with the help of Darwin's Evolution theory of course. Darwin believed that our appendix is just a "vestgial organ" that served its purpose and is now a useless "remnant" of the past.

Apparently, that is not the case at all. Aaccording to this Yahoo article anyway, the appendix is actually a useful organ and that it's showing some great potentials in the field of medicine. Here's an excerpt from the news article and I quote:

..... Parker and his colleagues recently suggested that the appendix still served as a vital safehouse where good bacteria could lie in wait until they were needed to repopulate the gut after a nasty case of diarrhea. Past studies had also found the appendix can help make, direct and train white blood cells.

Interesting, isn't it?
