All Saints' Day......

Wow, it's another trick or treating day tomorrow. My little one is very excited about it. Actually, she's always excited if there's any markings on the calendar thus giving her hints that there's something going on somewhere. She even pointed out something on the calendar to her Dad earlier about a 'holiday' in Canada. She's that excited about all these things.

Anyway, halloween is just the start of a special ocassion we observe in the Philippines....All Saint Day. I used to be very excited about All Saints Day, Araw ng mga Santo or Undas for others. We didn't do the trick or treating thing when I was growing up. It was a "never heard of" thing for us probinsyanas. Actually, I just heard about halloween or trick or treating from my college friends... I think. Even then it was not a big thing. The only thing we were waiting for then was All Saints Day.

My reasons for being excited about All Saints Day differed as I was growing up. When I was younger, elementary years, my friends and I would do the rounds in the cemetery and would collect candle drippings. We made candle balls out of the drippings. It was really fun trying to beat playmates to those big piles of candle drippings. At the end of the day, at night actually, we would compare the sizes of our candle balls. High school was a different story, it bacame a meet up. We would pay our respects to our dearly departed then we would stay in one spot where everyone would chat. College was even more exciting for us former high school classmates. Since we were living separate lives already and we would only see each other once in a while, All Saints Day was probably the best meeting time. It's a holiday for all in the Philippines and there's really no need to stay at home to bond with family. Everyone is out paying respects to loved ones who are gone. So after lighting a candle and saying a prayer, we would go around looking for former high school friends/classmates. We would end up in some friends' house chatting. I miss that...very much.

Oh, All Saints Day is extra special to me personally because it's Juliana's Day...yep, I was born on November 1. I always liked my birthday. Imagine all those candles being lit. It's always a holiday and I always get 1 peso from my Tatang. I will be turning a year wiser come All Saints Day. I know a lot of people will think of me on that day as I will be thinking of the two people who are the reasons for my very existence. I won't be able to hear them say Happy Birthday to me but I know they're looking at me from up there wishing me the very best birthday I can possbly have.

How I wish I can go back to those days where my only worry was where to find candle drippings to make my candle ball.....and to hear the 2 people that never forget to greet me on my birthday....but such is life so I won't let it dampen my spirit cause I know my little one expects me to be happy on my birthday.

Whew....been quite busy lately....

I have not been able to update this blog for a few days. Why? I've been quite busy with life. So I'm way behind with tags and awards so I thought I'd post the awards I've been getting since last week...here it goes...

This "cool mom" or 'cool nanay' award is from Ms Roselle...one of my first Filipina online friends...and probably the biggest influence I had in starting a blog. So in more ways than one, I would have to say thanks Roselle . I really want to think I'm a cool mom but I don't think my little one sees me as one when I asked her to finish her school work. Oh well, hopefully one day she'll appreciate it....yeah right!!!

This second award is from a newfound blogger friend...my 'kabalen' Nancy, a kapampangan like me. I just "met" her but she gave me this award so I'm really flattered. Dacal a salamat, Nancy.

And last but not the least is this cool halloween treat from Kero. Sweet treats indeed...now I have something to satisfy my sweet tooth...rather teeth since all of them would probably enjoy this treat...thank you so much Kero.

There ya go....thanks much ladies. The awards are very much appreciated. Since I'm quite late in posting these awards, most of my blogger friends have them already but if you see anything you like....feel free to snag it. I'll be happy to share.

Happy Halloween to each and everyone of you....

7 Random Facts about Me <<<<---- Juliana

I first got this a Tag from Emma......but today, Annie tagged me as well so I'm re-posting it...how's that for recycling...LOL. Anyway, thanks much to both of for thinking of me...appreciate it as always.

THE RULES - List of 7. Each player starts with 7 random facts about themselves on their blog. People who are being tagged need to blog 7 facts about themselves and post the rules as well. At the end of their blog, list 7 people you are tagging. Let them know that they are tagged by leaving them a comment.

1. I'm an orphan. Well, I was orphaned in 2000. My parents passed on 4 months apart.

2. I was in the LRT that was bombed on December 31, 2000. I was on my way home to Pampanga from Paranaque. I like being in front whenever I'm travelling via bus, car or LRT so I would usually choose the front train. On that day though, there was a lot of people taking the LRT that the front one was full, so I took the 3rd or 4th one. The bomb was placed in the front of the LRT. Lucky me, eh? We had to get off in the middle of the tracks because they had to stop the train. I probably walked about a mile to shake off the nerves.

3. I taught myself to play the guitar...self-taught baga. Both my older brothers play the guitar so I would see them playing guitar all the time. I was in first year high school when I decided to teach me how to play it. How? By reading the chords in Songhits that my brother used to have. As a result, I was one of the guitarists during the mass in high school.

4. I am a homebody. I mean, I don't mind not going out for a month or even longer than a month. My in-laws here wonder how I survive being home all the time. That's probably why I'm not in a hurry to drive.

5. I have a colorful 'lovelife'....**wink**

6. I used to hate reading the newspaper because we were required to read it for our Social Science class in college...but I can read 3 or 4 of those cheesy pocketbooks [Mills & Boons, Silhouette] in one sitting. But when I was no longer required to read newspapers, I would buy and read it regularly.

7. I can't swim even though we have the Pampanga River by our backyard and I had swimming classes for 2 yrs in college. I passed the classes but only learned how to float...so I'm a floater not a swimmer....hehe.

I've seen this tag in most of my blogger friends site. If anyone out there want to grab this, feel free...

Tobi.com Makes Shopping Easy...

Shopping should always be a pleasant experience. But with all the traffic and the pollution plus the skyrocketing price of gas, who would want to go to a mall or a store to shop? I know that stops me from even trying to go somewhere to do my shopping. So I do all my shopping at home. Yes, at home…on the computer. I search high and low to find online stores that would give me what I want…and Tobi.com is one of the stores that does just that….give me what I want.

Tobi.com is the store for people like me who do most of their shopping online. This online boutique has a wide selection of clothes and other things. They carry different brands but one that catches my attention, that I may just get my husband, is a nudie. This pair of nudie jeans is not like the other kind of jeans that are stiff and uncomfortable. Nudie jeans are like wine. They get better with age so to speak. They get really comfortable in time that you may want to sleep in them. As soon as you try a pair of these nudie jeans, you wouldn’t want to go back to your old brand. So if you think you’ve tried the best jeans ever, why don’t you try a pair of nudie jeans and feel the difference.

Now, for women, shopping is like second nature. But finding the right pair of jeans has always been a struggle for most women. I had gone shopping in a store where I had to try all the brands of jeans in the store just to find one that I like! Well, Tobi.com offers a pair of jeans called seven for all mankind. The name says it all. It’s for every woman in any size or shape or race. Talk about flattering. This pair of jeans is a girl’s best friend. It highlights a woman’s best features. What woman wouldn’t want that? Dressing up is all about that….looking our best. So if you’re in for a flattering surprise, try seven for all mankind. and you will surely love them.

Question Time!!! and yes it's a TAG....

Ms Tess threw me this super hard question. Ano ba Ms Tess, why can't I have a goodlooking smart guy like the one I have now?? hehehehehehe......

If you are or were single, would you rather marry a super handsome or pretty man/woman who is super bobo (dumbest, lol!) or a super ugly (has a face only a mother could love, lol!) but super intelligent person! I am talking about extremes here, both are of average status in life, not rich, not poor!

Have you heard of the saying "Love is blind"??? And since I don't believe in that, I would choose to marry the dumb but goodlooking guy especially if I'm using my heart and my eyes. But...if I use my head and close my eyes, I would choose the smart ugly guy. Who knows because of his intelligence we might become billionaires in no time which means he can have plastic surgery. So to answer your question Ms Tess....I DON'T KNOW!!!! Happy? Hehehe......

So it's my turn to ask a question ha? Here goes...if you only have 24 more hours to live and you can do anything you want in the world, what would you do?

Let me tag: Lucel Juliana, Nova, Emma, Recel and Vicky.

Get Cash Advance that's as Easy as 1, 2, 3....

Bills!! Bills!! Bills!! This is probably the only thing that do not change. Bills!! Who does not have a bill to pay? Each and everyone of us has a bill to pay every month. Bills come in like clockwork every single month. It would have been okay if money grow on trees but that is not the case.

Some studies say that an average American owes about $8000 in debt. Imagine that. So it’s not a surprise why we need places like Cash Advance 500. Sometimes we can’t help it but be in a bind and we can’t come up with the much needed money to cover what needs to be paid. In situations like this there is a place where we can go and get a cash advance. And when I say go, I mean go in front of your computer and check pay day loans at Cash Advance 500. Everything is done online. No lining up, no waiting for hours for approval. Just get online and fill out the online application. There is no credit check for this one so virtually anyone can qualify. Can it get any better than that. This is indeed a great site for those of us who sometimes need emergency cash.

Aside for convenience it offers, these payday loans can save us the embarrassment of asking friends or family members for financial help. Nobody but us would know that we applied for pay day loans. So if you’re ever in need of cash advance, get online now and visit Cash Advance 500. It would probably be the best decision you’re ever going to make.

My Other Half or My Significant Other...

The original title of this tag is: My Better Half....well, I'd rather call him my Other Half or my Significant other since I'd like to believe that we're equal in this house...o ang taray, di ba???

Anyway, I have quite a few pics of my hubby when he was younger but I really like his baby picture. Take a look...isn't he the cutest???

Let's try and answer some of Merydith's westions....

1. My hubby's first name is Michael - often the most popular name here in the States [or is it in the world?...hmm..can't remember it now.]

2. Okay the second question has a long answer. For the WHERE...we met online. For the HOW...I found him....gulat kayo 'no? Just like a lot of online match ups, I met mine in an online dating site. It started like this. A very good friend of mine told me sometime in 2000 that she was getting married. Surprised would not even come close to describing how I reacted. Why? Because she didn't have a boyfriend when I last saw her...and our last meeting was just a couple of months prior to her 'announcement'. I was, of course, curious.

So I asked her how she met this guy....and she told me that she met him ONLINE! The horror!!! I was beyond shocked. Hasn't she been reading the news about online creeps? And to think that this friend of mine is a well-respected teacher in an International school in Manila so I couldn't believe that she actually went with online dating. Anyway, I told her how I really felt but at the same time, I started looking online just to see what she got herself into. I registered in some sites but with minimal information. No pictures at all. I just wanted access to see what's going on there. It was free anyway.

My co-teacher friends [men and women] in Taiwan and I would surf these dating sites just to see other people's profile. It was fun actually. We never tried to correspond with anybody. It was during one of these site surfings that I came across my hubby's profile. I read his description of himself and I just sat there thinking: This man is describing me. It's like, I was the one that wrote HIS Profile. So I looked at his picture [stared?] to see how he 'really' looks like. He didn't look bad..not bad at all...

As soon as I was alone I just threw all cautions in the wind and went ahead and sent him a note. That was the start of it all. That was April 21, 2001 in Taiwan....April 22 here in the US. We started emailing. Then chatting online...then hours of phone patch. He was curious how I looked like since I didn't have any picture in my profile. I sent him a couple the first time, then 5 more, 10 more, then I just started sending him pics of my every movement....LOL. We chatted a lot and talked on the phone everyday. We even had a record of almost 16 hrs of phone patch in one call....yep, 16 hrs.

We took our time...we "met" online in April 2001, met in person June 2001 then flew here together a few days later, got married in August 2001. How's that for taking our time? Everything happened a few days shy of 4 MONTHS - from my very first note I sent him to us getting married. A year after that first note, we had our little angel. Now I'm wondering what to tell our little girl when she tells us that she's in love with someone she just met ...online ......hmmmmm

Oh, if you're wondering about my friend, she's happily married as well to her Belgian husband and they have a little girl, too. Want to know something funny? This friend of mine married her husband in December 2000 in the Phils. I even attended to meet him. He's a very nice guy, btw. Anyway, in March 2001, she flew to Belgium to be with the hubby. From there she emailed me and told me that they were getting married again in Belgium in July 2001. And...she wanted to introduce me to her husband's friend. So I was kilig to the bones...hehe. So I made plans of flying there in June 2001 since it's summer vacation where I used to teach. But before I even had the chance to apply for my visa to Belgium, I met my Michael in April, days after my friend told me that she's matching me up with someone...and as you already read up top, instead of flying to Belgium to meet a "prospective" boyfriend,hehe... I flew in the US to marry my prince. It's now more than 6 yrs and we're still going strong.

Whew...what a long story. I just love telling our story. Let's move on to the next question before Merydith starts another tag...jokes Merydith....

3. Characteristics: He's driven. He has the ambition to really make it big. He's really smart and funny. I also know that we [me and our baby] are his priority. His willingness to do any kind of legal job to support us and keep me from leaving our little one in other people's care is another reason why I'm just into him. He's also 'trained'. He can keep the house in order and he puts his laundry in the hamper. He takes out the trash and MOST OF ALL...he does the grocery shopping...and he does it right. All I have to do is to write a list and he gets it all. He's been doing it since we've been together. Why? Because I can't drive...LOL. Does he pressure me to learn? Some days, yes, most days, no.

4. Plans in 20 yrs....retired and enjoying the fruit of our labors. In 30 yrs? Who knows...probably just enjoying life with grandkids...

Wow...this short tag turned into a novel for me. Hmmm....looks like Merydith tagged everyone in her list which happens to be the same list I have....Most of them anyway. So I'm not tagging anyone. If you want to snag this, feel free and I would love to hear about your significant other and your love story as well...

Award / Tag Time!!!!

Okay... I feel like I'm drowning in tags/awards BUT I really appreciate all of my blogger friends who do not forget to acknowledge me by passing me tags and awards. So let me say thanks to Emmyrose and Garf this time for the following awards.

This first one is from Emmyrose. I just stumbled upon her blog [well, I actually clicked her name on one of my blogmates site] and I got really drawn to it because I somehow 'see' a very strong young lady amid her battle with a very painful sickness. Hats off to you Emmyrose for finding the strength to keep going on and for sharing your story to the world. I am always praying for you and yours. Hopefully, something will come out during this time of modern technology to help alleviate all the pains you are having caused by Lupus. God Bless...

This next one is from Garf. Thanks for always remembering to tag me, Garf...appreciate it very much.

There you go, my awards for the week. I've seen this award to a lot of my blogmates. You all deserve it so I'm passing it all to you.

When We Were Younger...I'm still young at heart...

Alrighty then...Merydith/In-in wants me to dig into my old photo album for some pictures when I was young. Being the good girl that I am, I did just that...hehe. Anyway, I'm one who likes to collect pics so I tried to salvage all those baby pics that I can salvage. Some have holes in them already but the people in the pics are still intact so I put them away for times like this. Here goes....

This first pic was taken in front of our old house in Pampanga where I grew up which makes me a Kapampangan. Although we grew up speaking Tagalog my Nanay being Bulakenya. I'm not sure how old I was here but I was very young. See the mini dress....ha!

This second one was taken in church. See the veil. Yeah, we used to put veils on when we were in church back then. See the mini again??? Hehe

This next picture was taken in Baguio. My father was assigned there for a few months so me and my youngest brother tagged along.

This picture was taken at the end of my Gr. 1. I was in the honor roll and of course got the most coveted 'ribbon'...susme! This was the start of my 'long hair' saga. My hair was way down my beee-hind until college. I had it cut for my college yearbook picture. I never really had the short short hair. The shortest was shoulder length. See my dress...it was still above the knee...ha!

This one was taken during my elementary graduation. Can you guess what I was doing? I was doing a 'Balagtasan'. Guess what? There was a power outage that night! Talk about bummer of all bummers. Actually, I was rejoicing inside because people couldn't see us while we were doing the Balagtasan. I was a nervous wreck, actually, I'm still a nervous wreck whenever I have to do something that involves public speaking.

Okay..this is me when I was pregnant...yep, I was covering it with my guitar. Nah, I was not covering. ..but I was really pregnant. I thought I'd put some not so recent pics here kasi you might think na I didn't grow up...hehe.

And this us now. With my hubby and our little one taken early this year. I didn't change much except for the weight....huhu.

I hope you had fun walking with me down memory lane. Here ya go, Merydith....

Beautiful Site Award...from Sweet-D

I received another award...yipeee!!! This time it's from Sweet Darlene. Thanks a bunch Sweet-D. You've been giving a shout out in your blog about my blog and I appreciate it bunches. I've been lucky to have found you.

The award is the 'Beautiful Site Award'. Here it goes...take a look at it. Isn't it purty? I really like it.

I'm still a baby when it comes to blogging but I'm really enjoying it. When I started, I thought I would never get used to it. But I've been learning everyday. I still have not checked everything there is to do in blogging but I'm getting there. Reading fellow bloggers' enties is now part of my day to day activities. I even find myself peeking at other sites in the middle of my coding..galing ko no???LOL. Anyway, thanks again Sweet-D. You're very thoughtful.

I guess it's now my responsibility to pass this really nice award to my friends. Let me give this award to Roselle kasi she just started this new blog and it's really pretty, Merydith and Emma. I hope you enjoy this award ladies....come snag it now...

Pass the Pink Penguin....Pretty please???

I just visited the blog of my namesake - Juliana and the pink penguin caught my attention. Look at it??? Isn't it adorable? Aside from being the adorable penguin that it is, it also has a very important mission....to spread "Breast Cancer Awareness" since October is actually the month dedicated to spreading breast cancer awareness.

I personally know someone who passed on because of breast cancer. She was the Academic Coordinator in the school where I taught for some years. She became a mother figure to us. She would prepare us lunch and would invite us for dinner in her place. She fought really hard, ufortunately, she passed on after a few years of being diagnosed.

I have no family history of this disease but this is not an indication that I'm not a candidate because 80% of those diagnosed don't have the history as well. So it's really a good thing that a month is reserved for the awareness of breast cancer. It may not make me go for a mammogram right away but it's sure good to be reminded every now and then that this disease does not target a single age bracket or ethnicity.

So if you're reading this, please grab that Pink Penguin and let's all do a shout out for Breast Cancer awareness. Who knows, the life we may save may be our very own.

Pati ba Pintig ng Puso???

You read it right folks, I just used Sharon Cuneta's old film title as the title for this entry. Why oh why?? Because I spent a couple of hours last night watching this movie in You Tube. Ha!Imagine that.

I rarely go to the movies so I never had the chance to see this in the theater. I can probably count with my fingers the times I went to watch a movie in the Phils. Here, I watched just 1 movie - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer' Stone. I was pregnant at that time. So that was it. I was one of those "cheesy" ones who followed 'love teams' - Sharon - Gabby, William - Maricel, etc.. Okay now I'm totally revealing my age here by naming those love teams...LOL. I also liked the Manilyn - Janno era...hehe. But I only did the following thru the TV and some radios. I would read mags but I never bought them. I didn't go to any of their movies.

Oh well, I thought I'd let you know what I do when I ran of things to do online...hehehe

Three Things

A tag from my Ms. Tess. Thanks for the tagay Ms Tess....at sa lagi mong pag alala...

2. Three things I hate~ snakes, snakes and snakes....need I say more?????

3. Three things that scare me~ SNAKES x 3...lol...Serioulsy, something 'bad' happening to my husband and daughter, being disable and getting hungry....hehehe

4. Three things I don't understand~ why bad things happen to good people, why good things happen to bad people, why successful people screw people who don't have much [e.g. the builder/contractor that screwed us and 170 more families of our hard-earned money]

5. Three things on my desk~[aka - dining table] -my laptop, workbooks, pencils, etc...my real table - desktop, cds, thumb drives...

6. Three things I am doing right now~relaxing after dinner, watching TV, this Tag.

7. Three things I can do~ drive my husband nuts, play the guitar, maintain a livable house.

8. Three things I can't do~only 3??? - drive, swim, hurt my daughter and hubby.

9. Three things on my to do list~ I have no 'to do list' - seriously, I try to do things that need done ASAP. Some things that I need to do after this tag though are - clean the kitchen of dinner mess [courtesy of my hubby because he made dinner], give my little one her bath and take a shower...hehehe....

10. Three ways to describe my personality - super low-maintenance, laid-back, understanding.

Hmmm...who can I tag...okay, Vicky, Nova and Anne.

Thoughtful Blogger Award...

Woo hooo....I got an award from Merydith....I would like to thank my parents, my husband, my daughter...if not for them I would not be able to do any of the things I'm doing...like this blog....hehehe....

Seriously, thanks Merydith. That's really sweet of you and I appreciate the thought and the acknowledgement.

I have only been blogging for a few weeks but I've already gained some thoughtful friends who I have not even had the pleasure of meeting in person. I am hoping to meet some more people, fellow Pinay and others as well, as I go along this journey in the world of blogging. Serious yan ha...

Anyhoooo....some of my 'online blogger friends' are already mentioned in other blogs but I still want to give them this 'thoughtful blogger award'.

Merydith of course...just including a "neo blogger" like me in her list of 'thoughtful blogger award' makes her number 1 in my list for the award...and we seem to have quite a bit in common. Not quite sure if that's a good or a bad thing for her...hehe.

Tess...one of the first I bugged when I decided to start blogging. Imagine...she didn't know me from Adam and she still answered my westions....Thanks Ms Tess...

Roselle...she's one of the first Filipinas I actually met online. We've connected quite fast and it's always a joy to chat with her.

Vicky...she tagged on the second day I've "known" her. Now that's thoughtful, ain't it?

Thanks y'all. I appreciate you letting me invade your blogs....Take care!
