Haiti...now Chile?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The number '8' is considered by many a lucky number so much so that the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Beijing began on 8/8/08 at 8 seconds and 8 minutes past 8 pm (local time). Today, such is not the case. A huge earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 hit Chile early this morning. It's only been over a month since another huge earthquake [magnitude of 7] hit Haiti which killed hundreds of thousands of people...and now this? What is happening? Tsunami warnings are being issued to places along the Pacific and that includes the Philippines. I haven't read anything about the Philippines being warned about it but there is a possibility. Hawaii already sounds ssunami sirens preparing people out there for a potentially damaging tsunami. SCARY! Anyway, let's pray that the tsunami they're predicting to happen as a result of this massive earthquake won't claim anymore lives. Hopefully, people near the Pacific coast will heed
American Idol Season 9
American Idol 9 Top 24 Contestants [ photo from AI website ] It's on! Actually, it's been on for a few weeks but the real competition for the American Idol Season 9 started yesterday. The top 24 - 12 women & 12 men - will be singing live. It was the girls turn yesterday while it's the boys turn tonight. And tomorrow...the verdict. Yep, the public will be sending 4 of the contestants packing...2 women & 2 men. So? Have you been watching? I have....sort of. As usual, the hubby is the one watching it. I'm just listening in...and catching bits and pieces of the show.
High of 75...
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's what the Weather Bug on my computer says...but according to this: ...the high for today will only be 74. That's okay. It's still in the 70s. It looks a bit grey outside though so I'm hoping it won't rain today although there is a 50% chance it may happen. As you can see, it's going downhill from here till Friday. Oh well. Technically, it's still winter so it's expected. We had great weather here the past weekend so the little one and I were able to enjoy the outside for a bit. She just ran around the yard while I attended to our yard of weeds. Yep, the weeds have taken over our yard. Hubby said that maybe I should just quit pulling them because there is just no stopping them. I actually agree, not entirely though. I agree that there's no stopping them BUT I'm still pulling them. Teee heee....

FrIdAy iT Is!!!!!

Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, it is! TGIF as we like to say ~ I didn't accomplish much this week unfortunately but that's life. Some weeks you do a lot, some weeks you don't...and it's the latter this past week. Technically, I still have a day and a half so let's not jump the gun... One thing I want to finish doing this weekend though...packing that JUMBO balikbayan box I have sitting on the foyer. What was I thinking? I didn't plan in sending a balikbayan box anytime soon but I have one now sitting and waiting to be shipped. It's actually almost full because I have some stuff here I want to send back home. I have not duct taped it yet because I'm waiting for one more delivery and then it's done. So why am I sending a box if I didn't plan on it? A niece asked me a favor. She wanted me to buy her a digital camera. Yes, she can get it in the Philippines but the price is double so I gave in. The result...I spent more than I should because I let i
Apology Accepted?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ …and he speaks! Yep, after months of silence and avoiding the press, golfer Tiger Woods finally spoke today to address the mystery surrounding his Thanksgiving car mishap. Basically, he just apologized to everyone for whatever it was that he had done. There was no mention of the mishap during his press conference today actually. Hmmm….I guess people are more interested with the can of worms that popped open because of that accident, eh? Hopefully after today, he can go and finish whatever treatment or therapy he needs to go through. Lucky for him there are places like Passages Malibu that are available to help those that need it. I personally don’t see me going in a rehab myself but it is good to know there are places I can go to just in case. Sometimes that’s all it takes to feel all is not lost…knowing that a place like Passages Malibu is in existence. One can even do advance research about the different rehabs before choosing which one to enter.

Slacking

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's me when it comes to my blogging! I haven't been 'that' busy so I can't use that as an excuse for not updating my blog...but I am "THAT" lazy. Blame it on.....yes, the weather. Also, I feel really tired during the day because I've been having some problems falling asleep. I can't think of any reason as to why that is except for my crazy hormones. Thanks to my thyroid, of course. It's almost the weekend again and I can't wait. Nope, nothing is planned. Weekend is just a much more laid-back time for me [and everybody else, I take it?]. Aside from that, we have a superb weather forecast....in the 70s! Yay! I can do away with a sweater or sweatshirt for a couple of days. That's it! Nothing much to blog about...and that's another excuse!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know not everybody is observing this day but I still want to wish each and everyone of you who come visit this blog a Happy Valentine's Day. Because of the little one we have, we [sort of] don't have a choice but to observe this day. Many would say that Valentine's Day should be everyday. To which I would say, DEFINITELY! With the little one that we have, everyday is indeed a day of love and loving for us here...but she wants to make a big fuss of Valentine's day [and birthdays, Christmas, even Canada day to which I said no...LOL] so be it. We had the usual card exchange as well as a couple of little gifts. She definitely had a great day so we're all happy campers here. Here's a card I made online for Dad [from the little one]. It's a Hallmark card that I made and had delivered here so that little one can hand it to Dad personally. She should have handed it to him today but since she could barely stand it, she gave it to him

Can We Go Outside?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's probably the most asked question around here in the last few days. Like I've mentioned here a couple of times [ok, much more than a couple...tee hee], we've been having our share of crazy weather in our neck of the woods the last couple of weeks so the little one has been asking me that question everytime she sees that the sun is out...including today. I promised her we're going out in the backyard in a few as soon as I finish reading about this health insurance quote the husband forwarded me earlier. The monthly fee is much lower than the one we have right now but I have to go through what's covered and what's not covered. We are still in constant search for that affordable insurance - health, car, home, etc. - because we really want to save some of that money we're paying those insurance companies we have right now. We feel that they're overcharging us in every way so we won't stop until we find something not only
Time to Move
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Move as in exercise, or even just walk. I really need to get rid of the 'spare tire' I have been carrying in my mid-section. Fortunately, it's just a bicycle 'spare tire' at the moment so no need to do anything drastic like weight loss surgery Mexico or any hard core dieting. Nothing that drastic...yet. I like my present weight but the bulge in the middle needs to take a hike. But how? I have a treadmill that's been begging for my attention but I want to be productive while I'm sweating. I'm hoping the weather in the coming days & weeks will be dry enough so I can do some raking outside for an hour or so during my free time but that's not very promising. Hubby said maybe I can vacuum twice a day if I want to be productive while exercising. That's a good idea but I'm just worried I might wear out the carpet if I vacuum it that often. Besides, it's too noisy and I don't think the little one will be happ

Ultimatum

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The husband and I had a good laugh yesterday. I mentioned this guy we ordered a curio from in a few of my posts here and in my other blog. Anyway, he's been coming up with alibi after alibi as to why he hasn't delivered yet and yesterday is probably the best of them: a customer who's supposed to pay him is in a coma. LOL. He ran out of excuses using his family members so now he's using his customers as alibis. Unbelievable. We're seriously thinking of just letting it go but we're also thinking of asking our lawyer to send him a letter already. We ordered that curio months before we got our Samsung flat screen TV. We had every intention to wait for the curio before getting the TV but our old TV sort of broke when hubby moved the cable box so we decided to buy the TV already without the curio. I guess it's time to find another curio and send that guy the long delayed ultimatum.
We Are The World 25 Video
In the heels of the earthquake that devastated Haiti, We are the World 25 was recorded by a new set of artists with the sole purpose of helping those affected by the tragedy. The video was played for the first time during the opening of the Winter Olympics tonight in Vancouver Canada. We are the World 25 is now available for download in iTunes.
Nodular Acne
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unlike me, the husband gets pimples more often. Normally, they start to show up as a result of stress...mostly at work. So if he's stressed out about something and not saying anything about it, I could still tell by just looking at his face and/or forehead. Luckily, his pimples are usually the small ones and not nodular acne which can really be painful. Aside from being painful, nodular acne can get worse if they're popped intentionally and sometimes leaving some unsightly scar on the affected area. Hubby loves popping those little buggers because he couldn't help himself. He says it feels good to do that that's why he does it. Anyway, it seems that over the counter pimple cream helps get rid of his pimples so there's not much to worry about them. I worry not because of the pimples but the cause of the pimples. I guess that's inevitable considering how tough the economy is now.

Sleepless...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... not in Seattle, mind you. For whatever reason, I've been having a hard time going to sleep. It may have something to do with my thyroid condition but I'm not certain. As a result of this sleeplessness, I'm tired for the most part. Aside from that, I may need to look into adult acne treatment since I'm seeing some little pimples on my forehead and chin popping up already. I don't get pimples often especially now that I'm an adult so this is something new to me. I can just ignore them since I'm no longer that teenager who is 'oh so conscious' of my skin. But...I tend to prick any bump I feel on my face which usually results to a bigger bump...and a painful one at that so I may need to find ways to get rid of them the right way. Anyway, I'll try to turn in earlier tonight hoping against hope that I'll be out before I know it. I tried taking Tylenol PM a few nights ago but they just didn't do the trick for me. It
Spam Emails
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am so looking forward for the weekend. Not only because it's the Valentine's Day weekend, but because the weather forecast is...dry! 'Nuff said! Woke up with a slight headache. I know very well why...my allergy is about to make a comeback, all because of this rain. I was tempted to stay in bed for the day but such is not an option since it's only Friday. I have a hungry little one waiting for me to make breakfast and some work that need to be done. While waiting for the little one to finish her breakfast, I went to my computer to do a quick peek at my emails. As always I have tons of spam emails. They just never stop. Everyday, I get emails letting me know that I won sweepstakes or that I have an inheritance for me to claim or emails offering the best relief for hemorrhoids and that my [non-existent] bank account that has been hacked so I need to click the link to fix it! Geez! The spammers are just getting more and more creative by the se

Miss Me Yet?

Image
Not me...him! I'm not sure what to make of this but according to the news there is this billboard along Interstate 35 near Wyoming that bears the image up top with that same caption. The owner of the billboard space wouldn't reveal though who paid for the billboard. Rumor has it they're supporters of the present US president but some are not convinced. Supporters of the president believe though that the people behind the billboard may be supporters of the previous president pretending to be supporters of the present president. What do you think of it? Do you think it should be taken down?

Deal Breaker or Deal Sealer???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What a difference a few hours can do! Yes, I am talking about my favorite thing to whine about lately…the weather. I was complaining how gloomy and wet yesterday was but today…it’s almost a perfect weather…again. Almost perfect to me because the temperature is still in the 40s to lower 50s but it’s definitely much much better than yesterday…so I better quit whining before mother nature smacks me upside down and send some more rain my way. Noooo!!!! The weather we’re experiencing here is nothing compared to the weather some states are experiencing this winter season. Right now, some states are having blizzards while bracing for another one. My brother in law’s friend who is interested in buying our other house is planning in moving down here before next winter. That’s good news for us since we may finally have a buyer for the house. My brother in law said that his friend started researching the area already and might give us a call soon. One of his c
Cold & Rainy
Image
A perfect weather for a cup of that hot chocolate drink while curled up on the couch watching some TV, eh? Actually, it's also a perfect 'bed' weather. I wish! It's been drizzling here all morning and I don't have much to do but blog. What do you know...I'm lazy to do even that. Blame this kind of weather for my laziness. Besides, my allergy is bothering me again because, yes, of the weather. Yesterday was the complete opposite of today weather-wise. The sky was clear and Mr. Sun was happily out the whole time. That's not happening today though because the rain is said to be staying for a while. You just never know nowadays what kind of weather the day will bring. It seems Mother Nature just can't make up her mind lately.
Eye-Trick?
Image
Just got this one in my email a few minutes ago. Looking at the picture up close, who do you see? Clue: a famous scientist. How about if you move away from your computer monitor say....15 feet away. Who do you see now? Clue: a famous movie star Pretty cool, eh? I've seen this one before but I forgot to post it.
Beware of Identity Theft!
How cute are the pictures, eh? I got them from an email sent to me maybe 2 or 3 years ago and I still have them saved. I must have really liked them then.
Informercials
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was watching a TV show last week. The guest of the show on that particular day is John Travolta because he's promoting his latest film. John Travolta. I've only watched some of his films but I try to catch him whenever he is a guest in a show, especially talk shows. It's very entertaining to watch him during interviews that's why. He's funny and very humble considering his stature in Hollywood. What do you know, his last interview left me all the more entertained by him. He revealed during the interview that he likes watching 'infomercials'. LOL! Who would have thought that a millionaire like him would watch those cheesy commercials...and bite into them. Yep, he admitted that he actually bought a lot of what he sees in those infomercials. He does not deny the fact though that he tends to question the validity of what they're saying and wonder if they actually work they way the infomercials show. I wonder if he's seen an

More than 1,000 visitors

Image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's what the statistic page in my Teacher's Corner blog showed anyway. How many exactly? How about 1,865 ? How did that happen? I honestly have no idea. It's not the first time I've seen that kind of stat in that blog and I'm just left baffled as to who would visit my blog. Look! ETA: I am not actually convinced that Teacher's Corner gets that many visitors...seriously. I mean...there's just no way I'll get more than a thousand hit in that blog.
Magazine Subscription
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I used to have a couple of magazine subscriptions. I decided to stop one of them because I don't get to read them anyway. I actually planned in stopping both but I got an offer so hard to refuse, I continued with one of them. There are still some interesting articles in the one I subscribe to as well as some recipes that I am planning in trying someday so I guess it's still worth it. One thing that doesn't cease to amaze me is the fact that in almost every issue of this magazine, it seems weight loss, diet, as well as anything and everything that have something to do with losing weight is in the magazine. From how to lose weight in just 4 weeks to adipex reviews and other diet pill reviews are found in this magazine. Some are good advice but some, not so much. I still like some of the articles in the magazine but I wish they limit the diet related articles to maybe one issue? Just a suggestion...

Supplements to Complement?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another weekend..yippee! It looks like we're going to have a pleasant weather today so I may go outside and feed my obsession. I'm going to WEED! Yeah! I wasn't able to do it last weekend because it was raining. Hopefully, it won't rain later today although it's started to get gloomy as I type...ugh! The first week of February is almost done. Next weekend it's Valentine's Day already. The little one is excited about it. Actually it's only one of the reasons February is an exciting month for her. It's Dad's birthday month so she's been plotting something again for his birthday. We usually bake him a cake on his birthday. I also try to get him something that he won't normally get himself. This year, I really don't know what to get him. Well, on second thought maybe I know what to get him. How about some muscle supplements to help him with his ongoing weight loss? Good idea? I'm not sure though if he'
Joke Time!
from Joke of the Day He Said, She Said... He said...I don't know why you wear a bra; you've got nothing to put in it. She said...You wear pants don't you? He said...Shall we try swapping positions tonight? She said...That's a good idea - you stand by the ironing board while I sit on the sofa. He said...What have you been doing with all the grocery money I gave you? She said...Turn sideways and look in the mirror! On a wall in a ladies room..."My husband follows me everywhere" Written just below it... "I do not" Q.How many honest, intelligent, caring men in the world does it take to do the dishes? Fickle Minded
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nope, not me. It's not a even a 'who' but a 'what'. Mother Nature. Usually, women are accused of being fickle-minded. That's probably why nature is a 'she', eh? Last weekend until earlier this week, it was raining. It lasted until Wednesday. Since there wasn't a lot of work available, I spent my time sitting on my tush [so what else is new?] surfing online for who knows what. I had nothing else to do so I read anything I came across with including Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA . Yeah, yeah...I also didn't know what it was until I read about it yesterday. I read that if you want to add muscles and burn fat, CLA supplements should be taken. Interesting, right? Anyway, yesterday, the weather was just perfect. Blue skies and the temperature went up to the mid-70s. The little one and I spent some time outside and took advantage of the great weather. Today? Gloomy. Thunderstorms. Rainy. Again. Tomorrow? Hoping it's going

Losing Weight

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I lost 5 pounds!" That's what the husband told me earlier today. I of course raised an eyebrow with that claim...but it may be true and I think I know how that happened. Who needs quick weight loss diets if you work 15+ hours a day 7 days a week? That's basically his schedule for a couple months now and it will continue for a few more weeks. I'm guessing he will still lose some more pounds in the weeks to come because of his grueling work schedule. I guess this is another upside of this hectic schedule he's keeping at the moment. Hopefully, he will be back to his regular time after this project...and hopefully, he won't gain back those pounds he lost [and will lose] once he goes back to a more predictable schedule.
Speak English????
...then get a load of this !!!! English is Tough, Part 1... English is a tough language to learn: Can you read these right the first time? 1) The bandage was wound around the wound. 2) The farm was used to produce produce. 3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse. 4) We must polish the Polish furniture. 5) He could lead if he would get the lead out. 6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert. 7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present . 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum. 9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. 10) I did not object to the object. 11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid. 12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row. 13) They were too close to the door to close it. 14) The buck does funny things when the does are present. 15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line. 16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow. 1
Neverending Hunt...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...for the best and most affordable insurance around. It's really neverending. Why? Simple. We're not very happy with what we have at the moment. I just renewed our car insurance not too long ago and it will be good for another six months. That means I have that long to 'hunt' for a new one or we would have no choice but to keep the old one. Our home insurance on the other hand is expiring in about 3 months. Hopefully, I'll come a better one [at least in price] before it expires. But the most expensive insurance we are paying for is our health insurance. We have been with our provider for years now. We 'attempted' to change our provider a few months back but it didn't pan out so we had to stay with what have. I am not happy that we're paying so much for something that we don't use much. Aside from that, I hate the fact that they declined one of our claims not too long ago. That alone made me think about replacing t

Reconnecting

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's what it's been the last few months for me. I reconnected with a lot of my high school classmates because of our silver jubilee. Yep, after more than 20 years of not hearing anything about most of them, I am suddenly bombarded with emails from people in my former life. I love reconnecting with old friends. I actually do occasional searches in google for people I haven't heard from in years. While some didn't seem to have aged at all, most of us have changed physically. Some more than the others. The most obvious change: weight! I could not believe how what used to be a tall lanky classmate turned into a short plump one. He seriously needs to look into some weight loss programs soon or he would be facing some major health issues down the road. Seriously. Anyway, weight gain or no weight gain, my former classmates are still the same happy go-lucky bunch of people. I only wish I'll be able to get together with them in the years to c
8 Things Tag...Part 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I started this tag from Nova a few days ago. The first part is a few posts below. The tag is originally called: 8 Things You Should Know About Me...but I seem to be having a hard time coming up with 8. Seriously. So I may have to revise it a bit and just come up with how many I can come up with. How's that? 3 Things I'm Passionate About 1) Family 2) Work 3) Life 8 Words/Phrases I often Use 1) Are you okay? 2) Bilis! [Hurry up] 3) Talaga naman! 4) Drive Safe! 5) Concentrate 6) Nananu ka? [What are you doing?] 7) Love you! 8) I'm tired! 6 Things I learned from the Past 1) Everything happens for a reason! 2) Life is fragile. 3) Be happy with what you have. 4) You are responsible for your own actions. 5) Let bygones be bygones... 6) Tomorrow is another day... I won't be tagging anyone...but if you would like to snag it, then go ahead and do so. Remember, the first part is found HERE ...

A GRAMMY for Taylor Swift!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Taylor Swift has a lot going for her. I think she nabbed all the major awards in country music last year. The real test [of her young career] would have been the Grammy's and she passed it with flying colors. She got 4 awards, one of which is the big one...Album of the Year. She was up against some pretty big names like Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas. Her win will probably put her detractors in their places now. I was able to watch part of the show last night but never got to see her win the big award. I saw the one where she got the Female Country Artist [I think]. I also didn't see the red carpet coverage but I'm sure I'll be able to catch it in several channels that covered the arrival. I wonder if any of the artists donned a creation by Michael Kors ? I saw some very pretty dresses/gowns as well as some outrageous ones but I didn't get the names of the designers so I'm not sure if Michael Kors designed any of those.
February...already???
Image
I guess next time we will have these figures will be in 2021? I forgot it's the first day of February already. I guess that's what happens when I don't have to keep track of dates which I normally do when I'm working. I had to submit my [work] schedule/availability yesterday for the month but I completely forgot about it. Oh well....I just submitted it so I'm all set to go. That's not all I forgot actually. Hubby asked me a few weeks ago to look for data center hosting services by the end of January but it completely slipped my mind. Now I have to spend my day doing that since they need the information ummm....yesterday? It's the weekend yesterday so I have an excuse. Tee hee... It has been drizzling since I got up this morning so I'm tempted to just lay down and sleep but no can do. I have some laundry and some much needed chores to finish today. Ugh! Why can't weekend be 5 days a week? Anyway, here's wishing everyone a great February. I am ho
Short Break
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Short break. Those are the two words that I hear the husband saying quite often nowadays. I wonder why. Maybe because he's been working 7 days a week. Yes, including Sundays. It's been going on for maybe 3 months now. Mind you, it's not the 9-5 work schedule. It's more like the 5 to anytime schedule. The 'anytime' varies...ranging from 6 to 10 in the evening some days. Yep, I think that may be the reason why he's been uttering those 2 short words lately. I am thinking maybe I should start looking for oahu hotels that we can stay in once that 'short break' happens. But then again, how short is short? If that 'short break' turns out to be a day or two, then a Hawaii getaway may not be feasible. So even if I really have no idea how 'short of a break' he will get I am looking into some nice hotels around the country. At least I would have some suggestions when the time comes that much needed 'short brea
